Communications Specialist with 14 years’ experience developing and implementing successful communications strategies and campaigns in international organizations in Africa, Asia, Europe and Canada. Particular expertise in generating and editing written content that communicates the value and impact of an organization and identifying key stakeholder groups and adapting content to their needs to increase the effectiveness of communications strategies and tactics.

Writing – Experience producing a variety of written materials in the development and higher education sectors, including: human-interest stories, press releases, print and web articles, annual reports, public information material, copy, speeches, technical documentation, social media posts and memos.

Editing – Highly skilled in professional editing, including, content editing, line editing, proofreading and copyediting. Ability to edit using varying styles, including, The Chicago Manual of Style, APA Style, AP Style and MLA Style. Experience editing high-level documentation for the UN as well as other international organizations.

Communications strategy development – Experience developing strategies for both internal and external communications, both in a solo capacity as well as part of a communications team. Knowledge of necessary steps to take to define stakeholders, segment audiences and craft compelling communications content to enhance visibility of organizations externally or improve the flow of communications internally.

Communications campaign implementation – Experience implementing all steps of a communications strategy, including, managing budgets, mobilizing internal resources, securing appropriate external resources such as design and production personnel and creating and packaging the messaging to be disseminated to selected audiences.

Cross-cultural interpersonal skills – Experience forging strong relationships with multiple stakeholders, particularly personnel in local country offices. Strong listening skills and an ability to relate well to people at all levels to capture accurate facts and create impactful pieces of written content.

Promoting communications excellence – Experience providing communications and media training for staff at all levels to ensure they have the confidence to face the media and convey their expertise.

Web content management – experience developing content for the web and managing content on content management systems such as, WordPress, Cascade and HubSpot.
