Professional Experience:
Headed the Department of Forestry of The Gambia as Assistant Director (1984 – 1990) and as Director (1990 – 1998); Managed the administration of 130 Personnel; Developed annual work plans and programmes for the Department; Developed and managed annual budgets; Formulated and implemented policies for the forestry sector; Supervised the implementation of projects such as the long-term Gambia German Forestry Project (GGFP); Participated in project and programme monitoring; Developed the concept and supervised the implementation of community-based forest management in the Gambia; Represented Government at International, Regional and Sub-regional conferences and meetings in forestry and related fields, such as the UNCCD and Climate Change;

Headed the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the African Union Commission (1998 - 2008). Drafted many OAU/AU Decisions in the areas of Environment, Natural Resources; Advised on policy and project development; Represented the OAU/AU at international conferences and meetings; Facilitated the implementation of relevant OAU/AU and international conventions on environment and natural resources, such as the UNCCD and Great Green Wall for the Sahara and the Sahel (GGWSSI); Lead the preparation of the AU’s Africa Regional Strategy for Disaster Reduction; Developed Programmes, projects and budget for Environment and Natural Resources Division; Supervised staff; Developed concept notes for programmes such as the GGWSSI; Prepared reports on project and programme implementation; Developed concept notes for Resource mobilization.

Served as Senior Forestry Officer, FAO Regional Office for Africa, (2008 to 2016): During this period, I served as the principal forestry adviser to the FAO Assistant Director General and Regional Representative (ADG/RR) for Africa and as Secretary to the African Forestry and Wildlife Commission (AFWC); Organized and implemented all the biennial meetings of the AFWC from 2009 to 2016; Provided leadership for the FAO forestry programme in Africa; Advised on strategies, policies, and programmes; Reported on implementation work programmes; Supported Partnership development; Liaised with professional staff in the Region; Contributed to enhancing FAO visibility in the forestry and wildlife sectors in Africa; Spearheaded the preparation of relevant FAO technical documents; Developed programmes and implemented them, such the Great Green Wall for the Sahara and the Sahel; Adviced and provided assistance to FAO Representatives; Collaborated with the Forestry Department in Rome, including active participation in the FAO Committee on Forestry (COFO).

? I have extensive experiences in organizing meetings and conferences at both Ministerial and Experts levels in the AUC and at FAO RAF.
