I am a technical, project management and business development expert with international experience of more than 25 years in design, development, management, and implementation of renewable energy (Solar, Wind, Biomass and Biogas), projects, programs and policy framework in Marshall Islands, India, Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Liberia, USA and Canada. I have implemented more than 50 clean energy projects and 20 programs, including Vermont Fuel for Schools program in US; solar PV hybrid mini-grids in Myanmar; Sustainable Energy Development Project in Marshall Islands, national program of Solar PV systems and rural electrification in India. I have formulated, implemented, and evaluated renewable energy projects, programs and policies as management or engineering consultant, or as representative of owners, funders, state and federal policy makers.
Since March 2014 I work as independent consultant for implementing solar, bioenergy pilot projects in Marshall Islands, Myanmar, Indonesia, USA, and Liberia. Before 2014, I was working with Winrock International, involved in clean energy programs in Vietnam, Liberia, and Indonesia. I was implementing three biomass pilot projects in Liberia and the Vietnam clean energy program funded by USAID. I travelled to Vietnam as business capture, meeting with the Govt officials, selecting local consultants & sub-contractors and securing the contract.
As Senior Program Director of Biomass Energy Resource Center (BERC), I developed team of five professionals and consultancy group undertaking consultancy business of more than US $ 500,000 per year in biomass energy sector in USA and Canada. My role included identifying opportunities, developing proposals, and discussing our proposals with project owners and securing consultancy contracts. I also developed the team of consultants and project managers and successfully executed all the contracts.
As deputy director of Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA), I developed a matrix-based organization; reorganized; streamlined policies, programs, and procedures; and created user friendly implementation strategies; which resulted in enhanced interest and increased the use of clean energy devices in the state. Under my leadership, the funding to the agency increased three-fold over 11 years without any increase in staff. I successfully assisted the state government in the development of power purchase policies and tax incentives, implemented and monitored the clean energy power projects and programs. More than 150 MW wind and biomass power projects were established in the state during my tenure. As the member secretary of Research and Development Committee at GEDA, I identified R &D needs of the clean energy sector and funded R & D projects.
