Professional Experience
I possess extensive experience as a practising Chartered Valuation Surveyor, Property Asset Manager, Project Manager, and Lecturer in Real Estate, complemented by senior management roles.
Chartered Surveyor
Glasgow City Council (1992–2003); Lothian Valuation Joint Board (2024–present)
With over fifteen years of experience as a Valuation Surveyor, I have been responsible for the assessment of land and property for rating purposes (property tax assessments).

Public Sector Property Asset & Project Management [Aberdeen City Council (2003–2008)]
As an Asset Manager and Valuation Surveyor, I managed a portfolio exceeding £1.5 billion in local governmental assets. My responsibilities included overseeing the full asset lifecycle: acquisition, project management, operational management of completed buildings, and asset disposal. These activities were fully integrated into asset management operations. Additionally, I was directly involved in managing major capital projects, including the delivery of a portfolio of schools valued at more than £250 million. My role also encompassed the valuation and appraisal of various property types for acquisitions, disposals, and financial reporting.

Lecturer [Glasgow Caledonian University (2008–2024)]
Serving as Principal Lecturer in Valuation and Appraisal as well as Project Management, I led the BSc (Hons) Real Estate course and lectured in Valuation, Appraisal, Development Evaluation, and Asset Management over a sixteen-year tenure.

Depute Director, Built Environment Asset Management (BEAM) Research Centre
[(Glasgow Caledonian University, 2015–2019)]
Between 2015 and 2019, I held the position of Depute Director of the BEAM Research Centre, which I co-founded, building on my PhD research interests. As the only centre of its kind in the UK, BEAM was established to deliver high-quality research and practical guidance for the management of built assets. Its mission is to enhance the planning, design, operation, and renewal of built assets, with an emphasis on sustainability, performance, and evidence-based decision-making, supporting organisations in achieving greater efficiency while aligning with global sustainability objectives.
