Professional Experience:
My career spans, Corporate sector, NGO sector and Government-the three sectors that drive country stability and growth.

For Corporate my experience is at an executive level in a Multinational Financial services company as the Managing Executive responsible for Corporate Citizenship, sustainability and Community Investments at Barclays Africa Group and Absa Group Limited. In this role I was also the CEO of the Absa Foundation Trust and Managing director of the ABSA Africa Foundation. I was responsible for developing and driving the Group social investments strategy for 10 countries in Africa, collaborating with the UK, Americas and Asia Pacific.

I am a trisector leader with over 18 years’ experience in leading a company and corporate functions to drive and develop business strategic plans. My expertise lies in the development and execution of strategic plans linked to creating shared value, enterprise development, sustainability, impact investments, financial inclusion brokering strategic public private partnerships, resource mobilisation, advocacy and climate justice. Over the years I have learnt to pioneer innovative approaches to tackling socio economic business challenges enabling customer growth and community development in financial services.

For the NGO sector, in 2008 I started an NGO called Hand in Hand Southern Africa in partnership with a Swedish philanthropist Dr Percy Barnevick. The establishment of HiHSA ensured the sharpening of my entrepreneurial skills demonstrating my ability to start and run a business. HiHSA supported over 100,000 women and youth across four countries (South Africa, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Swaziland). HIH SA is an NGO with the focus on micro and small business development in peri-urban and rural areas supporting youth and women. Main donors were UN Women, Coca Cola, Jobs Fund i.e. institutional donors and corporate donors. In this role I sharpened my resource mobilisation and fundraising skills, at a local level and international level as well. I learnt innovative approaches to tackling socio economic challenges working in the three sectors (private public partnerships & civil society organization) critical to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).

For government I worked on a national programme called Asgisa led by the Deputy President Phumzile Mambo Ngcuka under the President Thabo Mbeki Administration. The focus of the programme was to create 1million jobs through the development of Self help groups and Microfinance. My role was the deputy national coordinator responsible for programme design and implementation. I worked closely with government departments and reported to cabinet on a quarterly basis.

I am a development specialist by training, holding a double major degree in Sociology and Industrial Psychology as well as having obtained an honors and Master’s Degree in Development Studies from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. I am an ardent advocate for creating shared value by ensuring win-win approaches to business growth and societal impact. I am a strong believer in gender equality, women’s empowerment and climate justice with a focus on a broad based just transition.

I am passionate about making an impact in people’s lives through my work. I currently sit on several NGO boards such as the Save the Children South Africa, Southern Africa Trust (SAT), National Business Initiative (NBI) and Shift Impact Africa, founder of the Shared Value Africa Initiativ (SVAI).
