Professional Experience: |
Bring a strong mix of academic research, analysis and written skills combined with 20 years of leadership experience in humanitarian and development roles. These include Country Director for World Vision International Nepal and Plan International Nepal, and leading large humanitarian response teams in Haiti, DRC and Pakistan. My leadership is defined by a commitment to bringing out the full potential of staff; diversity across all grades; creating highly effective, coherent, smart teams; recognizing and building talent; clear communication and demonstrated strength in leading through change. I deliver results in fluid contexts by making sure different elements in implementing teams work together with a clear and united purpose. People leadership: As a bi-racial, multi-cultural woman raised in rural north India, my lived experience demonstrates that diversity leads to creativity and better problem solving. I've therefore increased diversity on every team I've led. Grounded by my belief that highly effective teams are built on trust, I have become adept at creating open and supportive work environments that curb toxic behavior and allow staff to grow. Systems: I am a systems thinking, committed to ensuring that systems contribute to the larger strategy. In my tenure as CD I led improvements in finance, procurement and HR processes, reducing duplications and increasing efficiency. Results: As CD I was able to turn around two struggling offices, including projects that were not performing. In each of my CD roles, income increased, we won grants, refocussed programmes to the most vulnerable areas and ensured the projects were meeting timelines and budgets Change management: I've led two large change processes involving significant restructuring impacting close to 300 staff. Both processes went smoothly, without lawsuits or complaints. Risk management: Having worked in fluid and often violent environments, I've honed strong risk management skills. These include assessing, mitigating and monitoring risk, creating triggers for change and learning when to take intelligent risks. Partnering: Developed partnerships with national NGOs, peer INGOs, donors, donor country offices, multinationals and youth
