I am and independent researcher. From May 2006-May 2012 I was a United Nations senior officer, and speechwriter for the High Commissioner for Human Rights. Most recently, I served as chief investigator on human rights violations for the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic. I also wrote for the UN Secretary-General.

• Human Rights Investigator: Chief investigator for the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic. Previously conducted human rights investigations for Human Rights Watch and the Fund for Peace.
• Speechwriting and Doctrinal/Policy Development: Conducted research and wrote hundreds of speeches, numerous opinion pieces and doctrine-setting lectures and articles for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. This material was delivered at high profile events and/or published by leading newspapers, as well as academic and specialized journals around the world.
• Program Creation and Development: Created, developed, directed and secured funding for two programs (Fund for Peace, and Johns Hopkins SAIS); as first incumbent of newly created positions (Fund for Peace, Human Rights Watch) conceptualized, developed, and expanded organizational activities.
• Research and Advocacy: Joined the nongovernmental organizations’ community first at American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA), and subsequently at Human Rights Watch and the Fund for Peace. Co-founder and a leading member of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), an international coalition of 650 NGOs, and campaigner on humanitarian issues. Conceived and framed an international convention to control arms trafficking as well as other legislation. Wrote extensively on emerging national, regional and international strategies, instruments and mechanisms of cooperative security, as well as multilateral responses, against transnational threats, such as terrorism and arms proliferation. Women’s rights activist since age 16.
• Journalism: Investigative reporter and Foreign correspondent in Europe and South East Asia for major European publications, including Corriere della Sera, Italy’s leading newspaper, and L’Espresso newsmagazine. Broadcaster with RAI, Radiotelevisione Italiana. Published hundreds of articles, including a series based on discovery of Ferdinand Marcos’s secret diaries, and political Islam in South East Asia. Co-created the first all women’s daily newspaper in the world, Quotidiano Donna, with other journalist colleagues from the women’s movement.
Doctor of Letters, summa cum laude, dissertation received the extremely rare honor of being recommended for publication (dignita’ di stampa), Faculty of Literature and Philosophy, University of Rome; Master’s Degree in International Public Policy, focusing on European and Middle Eastern Studies, the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), the Johns Hopkins University.
