I am currently working on putting together a benefit concert/festival for Nyumbani Children’s Home, East Africa's first and largest facility for HIV+ orphans. Have a look at the website at http://www.nyumbani.org/
Nyumbani encompasses some pretty amazing programs such as:
1) the AIDS hospice itself, which looks after abandoned children, giving them medical, nutritional, academic and holistic care until they become self-reliant.
2) a bio-friendly village of over 1,000 people designed for those who've lost family members to AIDS,
3) a care program in many of Kenya's slums which aims to improve the quality of people's lives of those with AIDS and help them help themselves.
4) a medical diagnostic laboratory which is one of the most advanced of its kind in Africa.
The concert will take place in early 2014 with all proceeds going to the organisation. It will focus on local Kenyan talent as well as some international talent. The event will be comprehensively PR'd both in Kenya and internationally
The goals of the concert are to
1) raise funds for the Nyumbani orphanage and
2) raise awareness about the stigma of HIV.
