Professional Experience: |
Between 2012 and 2020, I managed democracy assistance programs for ten African countries, recommending more than 250 grants in the process.
Beyond shaping grantmaking strategy for Francophone and Lusophone countries, I frequently organized high-profile discussions aimed at improving relations between civil society leaders and public officials, and raising awareness of obstacles to democracy in the countries of my portfolio.
In my capacity as program officer, I visited 17 countries spread across sub-Saharan Africa (West, Central, and Southern Africa), Western Europe, and South America. As a result, I developed, and continue to maintain, collaborative relationships with traditional civil society organizations, youth-led citizen movements, politicians, public officials, development donors, and diplomats in most of these countries.
Given my expertise in democracy assistance to civil society, and my understanding of democratic governance challenges in several African countries, I participated in numerous Washington-based panel and working group discussions, and also featured as a speaker at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), the Georgetown University Law Center, the Harvard Law School, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
I am perfectly fluent in English and French, in addition to possessing intermediate Portuguese language skills.
