Professional Experience: |
Joined in West Bengal Govt. Health Services in 1989,and served for 11 years in various positions, initially as MO in hiily terrains and riverine areas of rural Bengal; then within 5 years promoted to the position of Asstt. Chief Medical Officer of Health in one of the densely populated district with large industrial hub of West Bengal, then promoted to State level within 4 years as State RCH Training Coordinator with additional responsibility of MO in charge of World Bank aided RCH Sub-project in one minority dominated district of rural Bengal. Main job was to train staff and supervise, guide the various public health programs in the concerned jurisdiction. Last one and half years I served also as faculty member of Dept. of Community Medicine of Govt. Medical Colleges of the State, teaching undergraduate medical students.
From 2000 to 2013, I served National Polio Surveillance Project - WHO-India, initially as Surveillance Medical Officer in tribal predominated districts of Jharkhand, then after 3 years I was promoted to the position of mid-level manager as Sub-Regional Coordinator and served in many polio high risk states of India in next 8 years. Main job was to establish a robust polio surveillance system in the parts of India and to act as supervisor and technical guide to support all polio eradication initiatives of govt. counterparts in respective districts and states of India. Lastly, I have been assigned as State RI officer in Chhatishgarh to strengthen RI activities in that newly created state of India
Presently, I am working as Regional Epidemiologist in Ministry of Health, Oman since Nov, 2013 till date to support the country initiatives in Communicable Disease Surveillance and response in one of the remote provinces of the country.

High School level Education completed in 1980 from Scottish Church College, Kolkata, India, securing aggregate of 67.4% marks.
Obtained MBBS degree in 1986 from Calcutta National Medical College under Calcutta University securing aggregate of 56.6% marks.
MD in Social & Preventive Medicine done in 1998 from All India Institute of Hygiene & Public Health, Kolkata under Calcutta University securing aggregate of 61% marks.

-Profound experience in - Management of health care in emergencies in flood situations and cyclone, management of epidemics (Avian Influenza epidemic in West Bengal in 2009, MERS-CoV epidemic in 2014, Ebola epidemic in 2014 and COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 in Oman)
Decisive polio immunization campaign against the last polio virus in the state of West Bengal (India) was planned, supervised, monitored and conducted successfully under my leadership on behalf of WHO-India.
