Professional Experience:
Working in the field of development advisory, social research,, farm based livelihoods and climate change for the last 25 years, with the last 9 years being in development advisory. Specialize in designing farm and non farm based development programs that aim at building resilience, strengthening sustainable livelihoods and promoting inclusion of the disadvantaged and the voiceless communities. Have developed business models and plans for community owned businesses and have a deep understanding of the FPO (Farmer Producer Organizations) space. Have an ecosystem based approach to solving problems that call for interventions that are environmentally, economically and socially sustainable. Have written several successful proposals and developed concept notes aimed at raising resources for evolving strategy, determining feasibility and providing implementation support to livelihoods programs. Have extensive experience in working on tea, bamboo, poultry, dairy, aquaculture, fruits, vegetables, cotton and a few cereals like sorghum and wheat value chains. Have an in depth understanding of the agriculture policy landscape in India. Have worked on projects in both Asian and African countries. Passionate about adoption of appropriate Agtech, promoting circularity in agriculture and strengthening climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Education:
Post Graduate in Forestry Management from Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal (1992-94). Have studied Forestry, Management, Applied Sociology, Climate Change and Applied behavioural sciences at IIFM. B.Sc. Honors in Physics from B R A Bihar University (1989-1992). XII (ISC) from La Martiniere College, Lucknow and X (ICSE) from St Francis College, Lucknow. Have had experiential learning in livelihoods promotion (farm based), business middling and planning, circularity in agriculture and climate change. Student of human centric design based thinking.
Affiliations and Achievements:
1. Crafted a social forestry/farm forestry program for Ballarpur Industries in Odisha
2. Appraised organizations for funding under SIDBI’s Micro Credit Scheme, Rural Industries Program and Mahila Vikas Nidhi programs while heading its Regional Development Center for Western Region
3. Led the team that wrote the Madhya Pradesh Human Development Report, 2007.
4. Set up the Sanket Budget Study Center which built a database of MP state budgets for the last 20 years and carried out training programs for NGO functionaries to demystify state budgets.
5. Implemented large scale conventional agriculture extension programs under ATMA (Agriculture Technology Management Agency) and digitally enabled agriculture extension programs in collaboration with Digital Green.
6. Developed two FPOs in the tribal districts of Jhabua and Mandla
7. Set up an incubator for the Tibetan Government in Exile
8. Designed and implemented a program on use of technology (Automatic Milk Collection System) to increase incomes of dairy farmers with a revolving loan fund to finance the village dairy cooperative society in the tribal district of Chhindwara, MP
9. Developed the business models and plans for two village supermarkets (that aimed to aggregate input demand and farm produce) in South Western Bangladesh
10. Conducted the feasibility study for raising a 320 hectare organic tea plantation, an orthodox tea processing unit and a Multi product bamboo processing unit in Nagaland
11. Provided implementation support to the client in raising Asia’s largest organic tea nursery (6,60,000 saplings) and a 39 hectare organic tea plantation as a pilot to scaling the plantation to 132 hectares in Nagaland.
