Area of Expertise:
  • Director, CEO, COP, President
Professional Experience:
My career spans over 27 years both in Canada and Ecuador where I was primarily involved in supporting vulnerable populations with humanitarian, social welfare, global health, income generation, opportunities and biodiversity conservation. For 14 years, I led Transforming Faces (TF) as the Executive Director. TF is a fast growing Canadian Charity that assists children with cleft lip and palate in 3 continents. During my tenure, I oversaw the design and implementation of the organization's strategy and operational plan, day to day operations, tripled the annual budget through fundraising and increased the number of beneficiaries from 100 to 15,000. TF’s achievements were noticed by the Canadian civil society and as a result I was named as one of the ten most Influential Hispanic-Canadians in 2007.
At BirdLife International, I oversaw the overall operations of a regional office based in Quito with 12 staff members based in Ecuador, Uruguay and UK and was responsible for developing partnerships in 19 countries. Therefore, I am familiar with managing multi-functional teams. Furthermore, I was responsible for the coordination of the implementation of BirdLife’s strategic plan with 20 partner organizations. As part of the management team, I provided important advice in compliance, legal operations, safety, communications, fundraising and programming. This was not the first time I was part of a management team, as in my previous position with UNICEF-Ecuador, I was elected by staff to represent them in the office's management team.
