I have a vast and varied work experience in program work, human rights,gender, research, refugees and IDPs, report writing with Non-Governmental Organization operating in Africa. My duties necessitated working closely with national civil societies, nongovernmental organizations and supporting local partners in emergency situations. In the process, I was able to gain work experience in humanitarian sector.
I have accumulated over 10 years of work experience in human rights ,in particular refugee, child protection, SGBV and IDP protection work. I possess
excellent knowledge on the international legal framework governing refugees, IDPS, and stateless persons. I have superior communication skills in written and oral English.
I am a versatile, and multilingual(English, Somali and Kiswahili) professional with management experience ranging in size from small private projects to full scale thousands dollar high profile non- governmental organizations projects. I have the ability to oversee and manage colleagues and do so within budget deadlines.
My previous position with Danish Refugee Council (DRC) involved working closely with East African women. Over time, I was able to enhance my interpersonal communication skills. The position with GENCAD,working with women exposed me to the impact of microfinance as an empowerment tool. Working in a series of front-line client care positions, I demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills through effective interactions with clients, and members of the public. I have the ability to handle detailed information and thorough knowledge and working experience in African societies. In addition, I am highly-motivated, energetic, and empathize with clients and colleagues. I have research related experience conducting baseline surveys. I have designed and implemented protection programs. I met regularly with key partners for harmony and unity of purpose, regarding specific goal-oriented road map. I am easygoing and can keep long hours whenever the extra mile is needed .

I graduated from the University of Toronto in 2006 with a BA double major in Women and Gender Studies and minor in Political Science.In the course of my studies at the University of Toronto, Canada, I was exposed to qualitative research methods among marginalized groups such as immigrant women and teenage girls. I am therefore familiar with the requirements of qualitative research and how to undertake successful data gathering activities.
I developed a special interest in Human rights issues especially among women and other at risk groups. I have an in-depth understanding of human rights protection ranging from child protection to gender based violence. My knowledge in gender was enhanced by taking several courses that dealt with women and development in both Africa and North America. I believe I have the sensitivity to work with survivors of gender based violence Furthermore, my fluency in Somali, Kiswahili and English, and team work skills along with the ability to work independently will serve me well in various assignment.I have attended PROCAP training where i gained excellent knowledge about protection related aspects of humanitarian work.
