Professional Experience:
I am currently employed by Msingi East Africa Ltd as a Regional Controller based in Nairobi, Kenya a position I’ve held since February 2019. Msingi East Africa Limited is an ambitious and innovative industry development organisation supporting the growth of competitive industries in East Africa. Its aim is to generate new jobs and boost incomes while fostering inclusive opportunities for future generations to improve their livelihoods. Msingi operates in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda, with Regional Head offices in Nairobi. The Gatsby Africa (UK) and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) have committed seed funding for Msingi’s first 5 years. As the Regional Controller, I am responsible for managing the financial activities of the organization, including financial accounting and reporting, treasury management, financial systems and integrity, budgeting, and compliance. I also establish and uphold /custodian of the organization’s financial policies and procedures. The role manages the audit and tax compliance of the financial functions ensuring system integrity aligned to the regulatory and funder requirements. Additionally, the I provide guidance to senior management, supports Board relations through clear communication of financial reporting and analysis and is a key interface with external parties on financial matters, including bank relations, customer invoices, project reporting, tax registration and reporting. I develop and review financial systems to ensure these are robust, effective and efficient and support current activities and future growth of the organisation. Prior to joining Msingi, I worked with World-Wide Fund for Nature, as the Country Finance Manager for Uganda office for 5 years from 2013 to 2018. World-Wide Fund for Nature is the leading Conservation Organization in Uganda. In this role I managed and controlled an annual budget of over USD 6million and a complex project portfolio with support to partner Organization’s. I managed a team of 6 head office staff and 5 field office staff. I was responsible for all aspects of financial management, including: budgeting, liaison with donors, internal and external audits, implementing internal control systems, training staff, cash flow management, logistics, administration systems. Streamlining of procurement and logistics processes, ensured that policies and procedures and donor regulations were followed. I was instrumental in ensuring financial stability and sustainability in WWF Uganda, by implementing budget controls and growing the surplus position of the office annually.
I have successfully implemented projects funded by International Aid Agencies and donors like DFID, Gatsby Foundation, USAID, SIDA, DANIDA, UNDP, EU, FAO and NORAD. I have strong skills in strategic planning, compliance and Internal controls management, financial sustainability planning, risk monitoring and control, budget management, financial management, office Administration, procurement, stores and logistics management, audit, financial reporting, donor liaison, accountability tracking, and cash flow management.
