Professional Experience:
With extensive experience in leading major organisational change across transactional, transitional and transformational phases (both public and private sectors), Megan wrote, designed and facilitated a Transforms strategy to address the cultural change required of a modern, progressive government department. This four-year strategic plan provided key implementations phased to maximise impact, drive performance and affect change across an Department with over 40,000 staff and volunteers. Megan was the lead in this major cultural reform, developing crucial strategic partnerships across the department, providing advice to the Commissioner, aligning and contributing to the broader strategic direction. The success of Megan’s work is evidenced in:
• 80-95% positive feedback from participants
• improvements in Working for Queensland leadership survey results
• being a Queensland Premier’s Awards for Excellence finalist
• winning the Women and Firefighter Australasia (WAFA) Member Organisation Award
• withstanding the scrutiny of an independent auditor.
As Commander Regional Operations for the Stanthorpe fires of September 2019, Megan’s strategic leadership, thinking and planning led to the seamless preparation and response to extraordinary fire weather experienced during the Australian summer. Megan was commended for her recognition of risk and the preparatory work, along with her whole of government/multiagency stakeholder engagement which notably contributed to the positive outcome for the Stanthorpe community.
As Commander State Operations when the November 2019 fires swept across Queensland there was an astonishing level of media focus and Megan led media activities (live national and international TV and radio) in a manner that best represented QFES and gained the level of community awareness required in such conditions.
Her leadership during the 2019 Fire Season was recognised at the highest level with personal acknowledgement in State and Federal Parliaments. The Honourable David Littleproud MP said “I applaud the Acting Assistant Commissioner on her dogged determination in the face of these bushfires. I am comforted that the brutality of these bushfires was diminished by the strength of character Ms Stiffler and QFES team showed. I am forever grateful”.
Megan completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2015 formalising her extensive experience. She was honoured to receive the Academic Medal for Master Course work (grade point average 7.0).
Megan’s professional management strengths are cultural change, incident and disaster management leadership, emergency operational plans, systems leadership, strong industrial resolution skills, performance management, strategic alignment and delivery of vision. Strong relationship and partnership skills, ability to take concept to result, aptitude in shifting paradigms and capability to add value at executive level would capture her other key strengths.
Megan has recently been announced as a 2020 Telstra Business Women’s Awards (Public Sector and Academia) State Finalist.
