Professional Experience:
My name is Sanjeet Kumar. The overall objective of my profession has been to contribute income generation, create employment opportunities (short-term) and balanced diets to improve physical health (long-term) of communities in low and middle income countries, along with mentoring students, peers and researchers. In the beginning of my profession (1996-2006), I served for Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi and was based at the ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research (ICAR-IIVR), Varanasi, India. The recipient of three “Young Scientist Awards,” by different scientific societies of India, I was also a member of a team that received an “Outstanding Team Research Award” from the ICAR. In West Africa, as a joint employee, with a team of scientists and staffs, we disseminated locally adapted improved heat tolerant exotic and traditional vegetable varieties among landless women communities and fostering seed system development. The significant impact of these efforts on the livelihood of communities was recognized by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Science Award for Outstanding Partnership won by WorldVeg and ICRISAT in 2010. Since 2011 I am leading WorldVeg GlobalBreeding program.
