Professional Experience:
To whom it may concern,
“Inspiration” is term with many powerful connotations in our society. I find myself consistently searching for sources of this ideal, aiming to ignite it in those around me. Working with clients on an individual level, as well as managing public outreach on behalf of social programs, I have contributed to a wide scope of mental health services and advocacy over the past five or six years. I have found that my source of motivation originates from seeing myself directly creating change in the world around me, or the ability to contribute to it while on a larger team. I have lofty goals that include the possibility of pursuing public office, and I see continuing my experience in the field as a way of being the best servant to a range of communities. This path could even lead to international work as a see emergent needs on a global scale.
Initially graduating with my undergraduate degrees in Psychology as well as Diplomacy and Global politics from Miami University of Ohio in 2014, I went on to obtain my Master’s in International Disaster Psychology from the University of Denver in 2016. This graduate degree was an interdisciplinary clinical program focusing on trauma-informed culturally sensitive psychological intervention. During my studies, I was able to further hone my skills as a therapist while also gaining experiences in program evaluation and grant writing. Courses included everything from child development to statistical methods. Through this academic path, combined with working at the American Red Cross, a local trauma clinic, and an NGO for marginalized cultures in Sri Lanka, I found the opportunity to soak in all the experiences afforded to me, making the most of them as I continued my path.
Since moving to New York and working with a few agencies, I have gained a perspective of what needs arrive living in such a sprawling metropolis. Beginning in an organization that focused on providing counselling and aid to families with young children living in the South Bronx, I eventually moved on to work as a re-entry counsellor and case manager working with incarcerated individuals throughout the process of being released back into the community. I want to continue to build my skills, and feel like I have gained everything I could from my current position, which leads me to my current search.
I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to discuss my application at an interview. I have included a copy of my resume for your consideration. I can be contacted at all times on the details provided above.
Thanking you in advance for your time,
Hannah Herrera
