Professional Experience:
Hello!

I am a human rights and international affairs policy professional seeking a challenging position where I can contribute my knowledge and skills to help serve people around the world.

From 2011 until 2015, I worked as a full-time contractor in the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division of Global HIV/AIDS for five years. I first served as the Communications Lead for the Epidemiology and Strategic Information Branch, and then graduated to join the Policy and Communications Office within the Office of the Director. In that role, I worked with the Division Director, senior staff, and staff in other PEPFAR implementing agencies, including USAID, to guide and implement the division’s overarching internal and external communications strategies. I frequently developed and delivered briefings and reports to key leadership, including the agency director, US ambassadors traveling to countries significantly impacted by HIV/AIDS, and foreign ministries of health in countries receiving CDC support.

In 2017, I received my Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree from Duke University, where I specialized in security and human rights. As part of my MPP program, I worked in northern Iraq for three months at a non-profit organization called Yazda. There, I lived in a women’s shelter with Iraqi Yazidi women and children who escaped ISIS captivity and created and led the organization’s first refugee resettlement program in concert with UNHCR, the Australian Embassy, and local humanitarian aid organizations. I successfully resettled more than 350 Syrian Yazidi refugees from Iraq to Australia and trained Iraqi staff on how to maintain and manage the organization’s new Syrian Refugee Resettlement Program. From the interviews that I conducted, I compiled more than 80-pages of personal narratives for Yazda’s genocide documentation program, detailing abuses against children and adults perpetrated by the Assad regime and violent extremist groups in Syria and Iraq. I also completed a year-long consultancy project, where I researched and identified gaps in in the US Refugee Resettlement Program that, if addressed, could promote resilience in refugee children who resettled in the US from Syria after 2011.

I currently work as the Development Manager at a non-profit organization that serves young children and their parents who are experiencing homelessness in Washington, DC. I am responsible for writing private and government fundraising proposals, and in the last 12 months, have independently raised more than $1,500,000. I have also co-written and supported government, foundation, and corporate proposals that have brought in an additional $1,000,000. Outside of work, I currently serve on ShelterBox USA’s Board of Directors Development Committee, where I support staff in prospecting for transformative six- and seven-figure foundation grants to support its robust disaster relief programming.
