Professional Experience: |
In terms of my professional and volunteer experience, I have maintained over six years of healthcare, management and service experience. I started off my career in healthcare as a Sexual Health Educator at the Student Health Center at CSU, Sacramento. As a health educator I was responsible for planning, organizing and implementing sexual health education programs for my peers. It was during this internship opportunity that I was able to understand the clear link between lack of education and high pregnancy and STI rates. Since that experience I have been able to volunteer at local hospitals in the Emergency Department, where our community’s most vulnerable people often find themselves. I have also had almost five years of management experience. I began my management career at Target Corporation as an Executive Team Leader-Guest Experience. In this role, I was responsible for maintaining high levels of service to all guest throughout the store. I also worked as the Community Captain for our region of twelve stores, where I was able to log over eight hundred service hours in one month. Since that experience, I have held leadership positions at both Planned Parenthood and Davita Healthcare Partners. Both companies allowed me to work with a multidisciplinary team of professionals and presented me with new challenges around public health outcomes. Working in healthcare over the past few years, I have been able to create and launch programs that have increased patient care. I have also been able to develop facility budgets, streamline operations, mentor staff and manage outcomes. From these experiences, I valued the opportunity that I have had to change several patients’ lives. I cannot describe the feeling of hearing a genuine thank you from a patient, being able to help others through a difficult time in their life is extremely gratifying.
