Professional Experience: |
Over the last 13 years I have provided interventions and support to vulnerable men, women and children, experiencing domestic abuse, VAWG (including modern slavery and sexual exploitation) and poor mental health. I create practicable action plans that allow clients to see a bright future, make informed decisions and take ownership of their choices. I understand how to foster an environment of trust, safety and support, so that survivors of abuse can express their feelings of confusion, anger, anxiety and stress. I offer calm communication, empathy and compassion to clients in crisis. My experience within mental health and BAMER communities, as a Homeless Hostel Manager, Sheltered Scheme Manager and Mental Health Crisis Worker, enables me to understand the complex nature and vulnerabilities of clients, as well as the barriers they may face in accessing resources.
Employed as a Senior Domestic Abuse Duty Worker and Senior Domestic Abuse Advisor, I managed staff who were at the frontline of the service, taking initial calls and referrals, and offering immediate advice in crisis situations. I oversaw the Out of Hours Emergency services, providing solutions to maximise safety and achieve best outcomes, in time sensitive conditions. I place ‘empowerment’ at the core of my practice, encouraging staff to think creatively in problem solving, contribute new ideas and feel confident in their expertise. I believe empowered teams lead to better working practices and greater support.
Thriving in positions of responsibility, I have worked with Safeguarding teams at the Royal Free London Trust and Barnet Hospital developing the new Domestic Violence Service at the hospital and raising awareness of VAWG. Additionally, I have designed and delivered training on D.V., S.V., VAWG and MARAC at universities and hospitals; confidently presenting to large audiences of over 200 attendees.
