Professional Experience: |
I am a mid-career level health professional from India, with a Master’s degree in Health Administration and over eight years’ experience in Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, India, in activities ranging from decentralized planning, assisting policy formulation and health system strengthening, and monitoring and evaluation of reproductive, maternal and child health/ family planning programmes.
During my tenure in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, India, I have specialized in the fields of Reproductive, Maternal and Child health and Health System Strengthening. In my current assignment, I provide technical and programmatic support for implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan and have been responsible for the initiative since its inception. I am also actively involved in strengthening systems for maternal health programmes such as Maternal Death Surveillance & Response, LaQshya (Labor Room Quality Improvement Initiative). I am involved in field visits for monitoring implementation of Ayushman Bharat Programme (Health & Wellness centres) to operationalize screening for Non –communicable diseases, comprehensive primary care and mid –level health care providers for health and wellness centres. In my previous assignment I was responsible for designing and coordinating the decentralized planning process and health system strengthening initiatives such as free drugs and free diagnostics programmes for the National Health Mission. I have been involved in monitoring, have been a team member in review missions conducted by the Ministry and have also contributed to the draft National Health Policy. Responsibilities such as involvement in organizing National level capacity building/ review workshops, providing technical assistance to States for context- specific service delivery models for improving access to primary care and universal health coverage, have sharpened my skills to take up leadership roles. I was adjudged winner of the ‘Óut of the Box Challenge’ by the Ministry and awarded for the same by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, India.
During my internship at the WHO headquarters at Geneva I prepared a report on “Closing the Gap in a Generation: Policy options to address Health Inequities in India” which was presented at a Seminar at the WHO Headquarters. This gives me an experience of working in a multicultural environment and adapting international policies to local scenarios.
On the academic front, I have been invited for paper/poster presentations on RCH/ health system strengthening to international conferences such as the 14th World Congress on Public Health -2015, India; World Health Summit -2013, Germany, International Conference of Global Public Health- 2012, Sri Lanka. The abstract of my paper was published in a special booklet on new voices in global health by “The Lancet”.
