Professional Experience:
A natural resources scientist with a strong academic and professional background in forestry and marine ecosystems having acquired a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Studies at the University of Strathclyde, Scotland, a Master of Science degree in Botany at the University of British Columbia, Canada and a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from Moi University, Kenya. Currently Project Manager for Africa wide project on sustainable forest management in Africa at the African Forest Forum (AFF) since 2015. Over 20 years professional experience in forestry and associated natural resources research and development while working with a public research institute namely Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI), a regional non- governmental organisation the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) focusing on environmental science based management, policy and institutional analysis, and development for forests, marine and coastal resources management.

Fourteen (14) years’ experience in programmes development on management and conservation of terrestrial, coastal and marine ecosystems at the national and regional levels while working with national, regional and international organisations, scientists and academicians. These include AFF, UNEP, ACTS, IDRC, World Bank, Government of Sweden, GEF, ICIPE, UNDOALOS, IIED. Five years’ experience as the regional Centre Director at KEFRI, managing coastal forest research and development including in situ and ex situ conservation of coastal biodiversity in partnership with the Mijikenda communities. Six years’ experience as Projects Officer at UNEP on program management of various marine and coastal projects on conservation of marine and coastal resources at the country level in the Western Indian Ocean region as informed by science. Over four years’ experience as project leader for a pan-African project aimed to support African governments on sustainable management of forests. I have successfully managed a portfolio of research and development regional and national projects on all ecosystems, intergovernmental processes and stakeholder engagement in partnership with UN agencies, governments, intergovernmental organisations, and non-governmental organisations. Provided significant technical contributions to development of policy documents for governments and intergovernmental processes informed by science.
