Professional Experience: |
In 2014-2017 I have been a Research Assistant with Professor Diane Gérin-Lajoie involved in the SSHRC-funded study of Anglophone minority students in Quebec outside of Montreal. My own PhD project on immigrant parental involvement in elementary schools in Canada involves interviewing immigrant parents and conducting policy analysis of parental involvement documents in Ontario. I am working from the critical standpoint and use Pierre Bourdieu's notions of social and cultural capital for my data analysis.
I also work as Language Assessor with the YMCA in Greater Toronto Area administering language tests to newcomers to Canada and referring them to English language classes. This position requires provision of educational services and guidance to diverse immigrant populations.
My teaching experience includes teaching ESL in Canada and Ukraine, including universities and the private sector (2000-2014). In 2017-2018 I have held several appointments as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Toronto in the Departments of Sociology and Linguistics. I specialize in Sociology of Education courses.
My research has been funded by the Government of Ontario (Ontario Graduate Scholarship 2015-2018 (45,000 CAD), while I also had a chance to show my leadership by inaugurating CSTD Informal Series Talks in 2016 in my department and co-convening Bourdieu Graduate Students Conference (October 21, 2017).

In 2014 I have completed my MA in Education at the University of Toronto. I am currently finishing my PhD in Education at the University of Toronto researching the parental involvement among immigrant parents in Canada. The expected date of graduation is 2018.
