Professional Experience:
I am a dynamic leader with more than twenty years of experience in research and policy advocacy aiming to support inclusive growth, particularly for the marginalized, including women, people with disabilities and youth. My work experience has been mainly with developing countries, particularly Middle East and North Africa. I have authored more than twenty publications and co-authored more than six publications both nationally, and internationally. Parallel to my formal jobs, I had consultancy assignments in many countries of which Ghana, Tunisia, Yemen, Philippines, Egypt and Peru. I have worked with local government, international and bilateral institutions, non-governmental institutions (NGOs), think tanks and I was a key liaison officer between the private and public sector and novel financing methods and mechanisms.
I have several years of managerial experience. In the last three years, I have been working as a Senior Advisor at Employment and Social Development Canada, Innovation and Information Technology Branch (IITB) where I was responsible for project planning, monitoring and analysis. I have led several activities and staff and I oversaw the timely and effective implementation of the objectives and relevant indicators of specific projects. I have prepared several strategies, action plans and reports for senior management. I have developed agile management techniques where I encourage the staff to perform independently with high motivation and innovation appraisal, while ensuring cost effectiveness of implementation. Moreover, I have several years of experience managing staff (more than 20 persons) while being the Executive Director of The Microfinance Supervisory Unit at The Egyptian Financial Supervisory Unit from 2014 to 2016. I have been involved in all the managerial tasks from recruitment, selection, monitoring performance to training needs assessment and solving conflicts and ensuring loyalty and establishing corporate identity.
Education:
I have a solid grounding in Economics and Management with a Master’s degree in Economics from The University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, and a PhD in Management from Maastricht School of Management in Netherlands. I like to keep up with up-to-date knowledge of current developmental debates and challenge especially those related to poverty, gender and financial inclusion. I am fluent in both written and oral French, English, Spanish and Arabic.
