Professional Experience:

I have 18 years directing/project managing and leading communications based strategies. I have used my skills as an adept creative thinker to direct and manage projects, provide strategic planning for organizations, and create sustainable business practices internationally and locally. I have significant experience developing programming in cross-cultural environments, public speaking, press relations, outreach, coalition building, strategic planning, donor/member relations, research, database management, fund raising, marketing, event planning, and team building. (Certified in FEMA Incident Command, French proficiency, Spanish – working knowledge)

“FL's organizational skills were another exceptional talent he brought to the team. He was designated as the lead for coordinating support from the U.S. Recovery Accountability & Transparency Board to the Honduran government. As a result of the advisors' trip, the Honduran Security Tax Commission created a website significantly improving its transparency and accountability to the Honduran people.” Ambassador Rick Barton, Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Conflict Stabilization Operations United States Department of State, October 7, 2013

While in Ethiopia, I saw first-hand the need for action that breeds empowerment. I was able to work and assess situations that involved government officials, health workers, and engineers and bring them “on board,” to our ideas. Each of my previous positions has drawn on my own initiative while requiring that I work closely with, and report to, the executives, board members, and other key partners of the organizations. In each of these situations, I have as acted as a diplomat working between multiple parties with diverse interests and needs in high-pressured, often under-funded, situations.
I have turned that experience into a Presidential Management Fellowship with the National Institutes of Health. While at NIH I have led strategic planning sessions, evaluated programs, created teams, and led communication projects.

I am looking forward to the opportunity to use these skills I have developed and continue my professional work, overseas.

Education:

I received my Master of Public Administration from Seattle University in March of 2012. The program is a professional graduate degree designed to increase leadership and management skills in public service. The broad-based curriculum combines policy, finance, and management skills for careers in the nonprofit and government sectors. My thesis was "The Mobile General Store: A sustainable community-based business solution focused on sanitation (specifically eco-sanitation) and cross-sector collaboration.”

The thesis was based upon the research and the creation of the subsequent solution which came out of my having lived and worked in Ethiopia for the last two summers. This began initially, as Catholic Relief Service’s professional intern where I was charged with performing a qualitative research project on eco-sanitation and de-flouridation. I was immediately pulled into policy and strategy sessions for both program implementation and fund development. It was because of my work that I was invited back this past summer as their Summer Fellow. I led the work to create a sustainable community business model and solution that ultimately became the data and research for my thesis. The outcome is a program that is in the second year of test piloting to be scaled up over the coming months.
