My research has centered on resilience and positive life adaptation in the face of adversity.
As a licensed clinical therapist, family therapist and supervisor, I have practiced as a family, individual and group therapist in hospital, residential and school settings in Maine and Texas. As Director of Clinical Services, I was part of developing and expanding a Maine residential care facility’s programs to improve continuity of care and opportunity for resilient adaptation. In 2004, I founded Resilience, Inc., a licensed non-profit mental health and substance abuse agency for children and families historically underserved.
I accepted the invitation to join The Monarch Institute for Neurological Differences in 2007 to guide and develop therapeutic services that emphasized strengths-based developmental growth priorities. There, I trained and supervised graduate and postgraduate level interns, supported families in developing competence in children with neurological differences and coordinated integrated care for children, youth, young adults, their families and ancillary caregivers.
I am passionate about teaching and mentoring interns and new therapists in innovative, collaborative and relationship-based therapeutic care. Particularly, I am interested in affecting graduate level curriculum that will prepare therapists in functionally scaffolding positive life adaptation—toward purpose and maximum capacity for each unique life.
As an Associate, I am joined globally to a group of unique practitioners from a wide variety of human development related fields in the Taos Institute (www.taosinstitute.net) I have been a Board member of Tapestry of Hope (www.tapestryofhop
