Professional Experience:
For over a decade, Jeana Baker has led impact assessments on socioeconomic issues. From her fieldwork in Benin and Bangladesh to Papua New Guinea, Baker has harnessed a wealth of interdisciplinary experience furthering her specialisation in evidence-based programming through Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning.

Most recently Baker assessed the project effectiveness of a 200-member agricultural co-op looking to scale up to 1,000 farmers by 2023. As External reviewer of Ebola Response projects in Sierra Leone, Baker restored VMM international partnerships, securing 75,000Euro for pilot projects.

In 2015 she returned to west Africa serving with US Peace Corps in Togo as grant manager of a $60,000USD USAID food security project.

In late 2014, Baker joined OPEN Accelerator’s Business Mentorship Programme. During this six-week assignment, Baker used her synergistic skills to build organisational capacity and prepare rural entrepreneurs for legal advice and impact investment at the Dhaka Meet Up. To further understand investment criteria in Bangladesh, she met with local business advisors, buyers and bankers to provide recommendations for entrepreneurs seeking business expansion.

For VSO Uganda, Baker conducted research on the impacts of climate change impacts on the most vulnerable and marginalised in Uganda. A cross-cutting climate change paper is due to be released to help volunteers, partners, and donors to better understand VSOs climate-resilient programming. Additionally, she has calculated VSOs total carbon emissions developing a Fair Climate Youth Enterprise and Carbon Offset Programme that seeks to achieve two key objectives: 1) teaching social entrepreneurial skills to youth at Vocational Training Institutes in Northern Uganda and 2) offsetting VSO Uganda’s carbon emissions.

At Auburn University, Baker served on a Disaster Assistance Task Force to assess the economic damages of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Her research focused on community resilience as well as supply chain analysis of Alabama’s tourism and seafood industries. She collaborated with researchers to synthesize major findings into two journal publications including: Economic Impact of the 2010 BP Oil Spill on Marine-Based Industries for Auburn Speaks and Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant. Two years after the oil spill, her research also gained national recognition in Anchorage Daily News and Bloomberg Businessweek.

During her two-year Peace Corps service in rural Benin, Baker, served as Youth Agricultural Agent, was instrumental in advising schools on environmental resilience. Baker relied heavily on her French speaking and writing skills to develop a tropical beekeeping project and gender empowerment workshops. With middle school students and local farmers, she applied her background and experience in tropical agroforestry to enhance climate resilience to improve food security. She demonstrated, oftentimes in local language, how to construct improved mud stov
