2014- UNICEF Eastern & Southern Africa, Emergency Roster, WASH.
Kenya: Contributed to the National WASH Climate Resilience Strategy.
Kenya: Provision of support to strengthen cholera preparedness and responses.
Eastern Africa: Review of existing water programming and research (UNICEF and others) in arid and semi arid lands (ASALs) in the Horn of Africa.

2018-2019 World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), Support to the team of the High Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) in development of the HLPE Report on Agroecology and other Innovations.

2009-2014 World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) Member, Governing Council, ACTS (2010-14): of the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) on behalf of ICRAF. Interim Programme Manager (2013-14): helping establish the Dutch-funded DRYDEV Programme. Senior Programme Adviser/Project Manager: In the office of the Deputy Director General (2009-2011) focussing on institutional management, and in the Science Domain on Agroforestry Systems (2010-2013), more on grant management, including programme coordination of a number of projects including the UNDP-GEF Lake Tanganyika Project, a lake basin catchment management support project with targeted agroforestry interventions.

2001-2008 UNICEF Senior Adviser, WASH – a selection of positions:
UNICEF Somalia (2007-8), Chief WES a.i. (WASH Manager, L5) Responsible for the WES programme with a budget totalling $17m p.a. This included a large emergency WASH component, one on urban water supplies with rehabilitation linked with development of public-private partnerships. Together with rural WASH services, and others, service delivery reached approx. 650,000 persons.
UNICEF ESARO (2005-7) Senior WES adviser a.i., main focus on technical advice and back-stopping, development of funding proposals and sector capacity in the 22-country region, and latterly emergency WES response to the severe 5-country drought in the Horn of Africa.Work included development of WASH funding proposals to the Netherlands Government, including hosting and co-facilitating a workshop for six 2nd phase countries (making 10 in all and a $0.5 billion budget).

1998-2008 RedR (Engineers for Disaster Relief) Chair, Steering Group RedR Eastern Africa (2002-8). Voluntary work focused on the provision of training for both national and international relief workers in the region, with an increasing emphasis on using local trainers, utilising the considerable relief experience in the region.

2000-2006 Hofman Andersen & Partners, Senior Partner Environmental Specialist & Team Leader for DANIDA on many pre-appraisal, identification, and review missions. These included Danish support to the Sustainable Cities urban environmental programme in a number of municipalities (Arusha, Morogoro, Moshi, Tanga) and severally at the National level in Tanzania. Natural Resources Management Specialist responsible for the identification and formulation of Danish support to the National Wetlands Programme. WASH
