Professional Experience: |
I have worked across various different kinds of media production from news shows to reality networks, and the common thread in all my experiences was developing content inspired by network objectives and industry trends to gain maximum relevance and audience. I was first a production intern at Insight at Arirang Global TV for a weekly news show, where I learned how a newsroom works. I was then a development intern at channel QTV (TBS-Asia channel) in Seoul, working on fall lineup shows at the reality/documentary network. I spent my junior year interning at Providence Pictures as a Production and Development intern for the PBS NOVA- Building Wonders series for nine months. Before graduation, I was a Development Intern for TLC (Discovery Communications) in LA, where I spent the summer attending pitch meetings and reading and logging hundreds of pitches and learned the importance of networks’ ‘brand marketing’ in television. Most recently, I was a Development Researcher at Discovery Channel (Discovery Communications), where I researched for new show ideas based on various kinds of news stories, whether it was stumbling across a small human-interest piece in a Romanian paper or making an infographic of twitter trends. I worked with various departments to come up with show ideas that would best fulfill the demands of Discovery’s existing target demographic, while also making sure that the characters and stories in the show would be new and interesting through personally interviewing and producing example reels. My time at Discovery taught me how to navigate developing original content that is both informative and emotional, content that can move audiences to make a difference for the cause. It affirmed the very reason that I decided to study and work in media in the first place.
