Professional Experience:
Wendy’s main area of technical expertise is in the energy field where she has worked for more than 25 years and published and presented extensively in the field. Through her various roles she has experience and capabilities and skills in the following areas:
o Overall energy sector issues and policy and international policy issues on energy and sustainable development
o Various electricity generation and other technologies including renewable energy, coal, gas and hydro generation, energy efficiency, electrification
o Energy strategy and decision making and energy planning
o Risk identification and management and strategic risk management
Wendy also has extensive management experience having managed groups of people from 12 to 500 for the last 25 years. On governance, Wendy has interfaced extensively with Boards of companies and associations having served on the Boards of the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) and the International Emissions Trading. She is therefore well versed in best practice in governance and has also attended training courses in this regard.
Wendy has more than 15 years’ experience in strategy development and implementation across a wide variety of energy related topics. She also has a formal qualification in this regard from Oxford University SAID business school and has run a strategy department for 8 years. She is also has in-depth experience on strategy tools and methodologies.
Wendy also has extensive experience in Sustainable Development and has overseen and developed sustainable development strategies and reporting processes. She has also been an active participant in a number of international sustainable development associations and related projects and participated in United Nations negotiations for business associations and South Africa. She was awarded the outstanding order of contributors to Sustainable Development by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development in 2011.
In climate change she has over the last 20 years developed and implemented mitigation and adaptation strategy in this regard, in particular for the electricity sector. She has attended numerous climate change meetings both nationally and internationally, as well as be on the South Africa delegation to many of these meetings.
In Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ), Wendy has more than 20 years’ experience in strategy, policy and reporting on SHEQ for a company with in excess of 35000 people. In her own right, she is an expert on environmental issues and environmental management. She has also overseen the development and roll out of large scale, company-wide programmes.
In research and innovation, Wendy has spent the last 30 years doing her own research, managing groups of research staff, participating in international research organisations, giving strategic direction to research organisations and commercialisation of research products. She is well versed in innovation methodologies and processes
Education:
I have a MSc in Microbiology, Diplomas in Management and Strategy and Innovation (Oxford)
Affiliations and Achievements:
• Awarded the outstanding order of contributors to Sustainable Development by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development in 2011.
• Various internal management awards and one chairman’s award.

• Elected onto the executive committee of the South African Industrial Water Association in October 1990 and served on the committee until October 1993.
• Served on the ILSI (International Life Sciences Institute) committee from July 1996 to December 1997.
• Elected onto the Committee of the Northern Branch of the National Association for Clean Air in June 1999 to 2001.
• Elected onto the Executive Committee of the Environmental Scientific Association in September 1999 to 2001.
• Member of the Fossil Fuel Foundation and Council Member from 2005 to 2009.
• Liaison Delegate for Eskom for the World Business Council for Sustainable Development from 2003 to 2011 and co-chair lead on the Electricity Member Project.
• Member of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Research Advisory Committee from 2008 to 2011.
• Associate to the Eskom Member to the International Energy Agency’s Coal Industry Advisory Board from 2002 until end 2007.
• Chaired the International Chamber of Commerce’s Energy and Environment Commission’s Energy Task Force (from 2006 to 2011). Vice Chair of the Commission from 2011 to 2014.
• On the South African delegation to a United Nations Experts Meeting on Energy and Sustainable Development in 2001.
• On the South African delegation to the Renewables 2004 conference.
• On the South African delegation to the June 2004 UNFCCC intercessional meetings.
• Member of the South African delegation for the Carbon Sequestration Leadership forum.
• Member of the South Africa delegation for the COP 11 of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change in Montreal Canada in 2005.
• Participated in the Picantico Dialogue, a Pew Centre Initiative on climate change.
• Attended numerous United Nations meetings including over 20 meetings of the UNFCCC and numerous CSD and UNEPGC meetings amongst others.
• Secretariat of the South African BRICS Business Council 2015-2016.
• Secretariat of the South African BRICS Business Council Energy and Green Economy Working Group 2016 to present.
