Professional Experience:

After joining the Mexican Foreign Service in 2009, Maria served as Assistant Director at the Protocol Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico. From 2012-2015, she was posted to the Consulate General of Mexico in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where she worked as Head of the Cultural, Press and Education sections and was in charge of organizing cultural activities, managing education, science and technology cooperation programs, as well as of serving as media liaison for the Consulate. Her professional background also includes work with international organizations on areas such as electoral observation, political crisis prevention, and human rights monitoring in Latin American countries.

Education:

MA Candidate in Global Affairs from Yale University (Expected May 2017). She holds a Msc. in Comparative Politics (Latin America) from the London School of Economics (2008) and B.A. from Universidad de las Américas Puebla in Mexico (2006). She graduated from the Mexican Diplomatic Academy Matias Romero Institute in 2010, where she completed a training course for incoming Mexican diplomats.
