Professional Experience: |
The vast majority of my professional experience of 27 years in the philanthropic sector was with CARE USA and CARE International. My most recent position with CARE International was as the Humanitarian Director of CARE International based in Geneva, responsible for coordinating CARE's global emergency preparedness and responses across the 80 countries of presence as well as new locations. During my five year tenure as Humanitarian Director I led the development of CARE International's humanitarian strategy focusing on women and girls, working in conflict contexts and in partnership with local organizations and communities. I was actively engaged in leading humanitarian fora, represented CARE at high level UN, government and donor venues, and strengthened CARE's humanitarian advocacy and emergency response capacity through enhanced CARE member commitment and support for CARE's humanitarian mandate. Previous roles with CARE USA included Country Director of major CARE presence in Mozambique, Bolivia and Honduras as well as Program development and CoP roles in Ethiopia, Uganda, Bangladesh and Guatemala. Current consultancy experience has included the facilitation of the humanitarian strategy development and implementation plan for InterAction HPP.

Education: |
I hold an ABD (all but dissertation) from the University of Texas-Austin in International Health and Development; focus of dissertation was on urban primary health care in Lima, Peru and how poor women accessed health services for themselves and family. During my doctoral studies, i held a Fulbright Scholarship which provided with the opportunity to understand primary health care issues in a developing context setting and firmly established my career goals to focus on working to alleviate poverty and inequity.
My Master's degree is in Anthropology from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor's Degree in Geography. As an anthropologist I worked in several countries in Latin America including Mexico and Peru.
