Professional Experience:
I started my professional career as secondary school teacher and department chair for nine and a half years in a deprived community near Cape Town, South Africa. Since no formal leadership preparation was offered to school leaders in South Africa, Shortly after my appointment as department chair, I sought professional development opportunities in order to equip myself to lead with confidence. At the time, no formal leadership preparation was offered to school leaders in South Africa. My participation in professional development opportunities led to a scholarship to take educational leadership courses towards an M.Ed. degree at the University of South Carolina and the University of KwaZulu Natal (formerly University of Durban Westville).

While I was enrolled as doctoral student and candidate at the University of South Carolina, I served as graduate research assistant in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policies and the South Carolina Educational Policy Center in the College of Education. My responsibilities included library and online research; communication with school and district personnel, officials at state education agencies, and various other stakeholder groups to request data; schedule data collection visits, and coordinate committee work. I also processed data, analyzed it, and either contributed to project reports or served as lead author of reports.

Following my graduation from the Ph.D. program, I was invited to serve as adjunct assistant professor, and later, clinical assistant professor, in the South Carolina Educational Policy Center (SCEPC) and Department of Educational Leadership and Policies (EDLP). In 2005, I returned to South Africa to serve as Senior Lecturer at the University of Pretoria. During my tenure in the SCEPC, EDLP, and the University of Pretoria in South Africa, I communicated with staff and faculty in schools, districts, higher education institutions, and state agencies about data and information needed for research and evaluation activities, and to schedule data collection visits. In addition, I planned and executed research in collaboration with professors and colleagues, and either served as lead author of, or contributor to the research or evaluation report. I have successfully chaired the research projects of Ph. D. and M. Ed.students at the University of Pretoria in South Africa and continue to guide two Ph. D. candidates who are in the process of completing their research projects.

After a tenure of nine and a half years at the University of Pretoria, I accepted the position of Adjunct Associate Professor at Fayetteville State University where I served as instructor of graduate and undergraduate courses, dissertation coach, chair and member of dissertation committees; interim coordinator of the doctoral program, and member of committees at departmental, School of Education, and university level.

Education:
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and History; a high school teacher's diploma and a B.Ed. Honors degree from the University of the Western Cape in South Africa; an M.Ed. in Educational Management & Leadership from the University of Durban-Westville in South Africa; and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration, K-12, with a concentration in Advanced Policy Analysis and Advanced Finance in Education, and a minor in Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina in the USA.
