Professional Experience:
I did my Major’s studies in International Relations, have a Master’s degree in International Cooperation for Development and I worked for almost eight years at the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Personal Data Protection (INAI) in different positions.
My interest in public administration comes from emerging economies and the Global South, it started early in my Undergraduate studies when I noticed the increasing performance of some countries in the international arena and how they started to take a key role on it. I looked for a wide understanding of these countries and I focused to do my Master’s studies in International Cooperation for Development at Instituto Mora, the only programme of his kind in Mexico (so far), and was awarded by the National Council of Science and Technology with an scholarship on the fulltime programme.
During my Master’s studies I focussed my thesis on analysing Brazil, as an emerging power. I developed a study to understand Brazilian technical cooperation strategy in different regions. The work analyses Brazilian Foreign Policy (BFP) and suggests elements to shape a policy of State and argues that Brazilian international cooperation policy is functioning as BFP’s instrument. I could not have done this work without the six-month internship I did in the South-South Cooperation Unit at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Brazil.
After that, I got a job offer at INAI, an autonomous body, by working in its Foreign Affair Office, where we coordinated the institution’s participation in different transnational initiatives and formal advocacy networks for access to information. In 2016, I was promoted by INAI as candidate to the Advance Professional Training in Managing Global Governance (MGG Academy), a programme of the BMZ of Germany. Fortunately, I was chosen to take part of the programme.
After the MGG Academy, I came back to México to keep on going with my duties at INAI, where I could make use of the knowledge about the Agenda and furthermore in the creation of information socially useful, accountability, the governmental managing in a new digital environment, and the compliance of obligated entities with the Common and Specific Transparency Obligations by the General Act of Transparency and Access to Public Information (México) in a digital format. We launched and coordinate several projects and policies, which make international guidelines to the right for access to information in the Latin region, however I think I could have contributed more by having more elements about public administration, as I would like to do now.
This idea motivates me to keep on going in my academic studies, particularly to develop and converge to important topics for the 2030 Agenda achievement: the digitalisation and the information producing for more and better policies related to every Sustainable Development Goal.
More recently, I was chosen to participate as an expert in the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN Network), the national chapter of an international initiative launched by the UN Secretary-General for SDG achievement.
