Professional Experience:
As a socially engaged citizen of and committed professional in today’s illiberal Hungary who has spent two decades in the civil sector at different leadership roles, I look for an opportunity where I can contribute to the empowerment of autonomous individuals in a society founded on the respect of human rights and framed by the rule of law.
Throughout my professional carrier I’ve always either initiated new endeavours or joined in an early phase and helped shape them. Coming from the arts and culture sector where I used to be a successful theatre manager, creativity and entrepreneurship fuelled my practice that I turned into hands-on solutions. The past ten years I used these experiences to design and implement diverse large-scale, often international programs at major philanthropic bodies which aimed to boost change and create impact in difficult social circumstances.
As the Deputy Director of the Arts&Culture Program at the Open Society Foundations, I was in charge of a USD 1M grant portfolio that we partially distributed through open calls and partially invested in original programs, sometimes co-developed with other donors. After the ACP was closed down, I was commissioned by the Roma Initiatives Office to devise the concept and rationale of the European Roma Institute that was adopted by the Council of Europe and finally inaugurated in Berlin in 2017.
Between 2015-16 I proudly served as the Grant Manager of the European Joint Fund for Hungary which -at the wake of the conflicts between the Hungarian authorities and grantees of the Norwegian Fund- gave emergency support for 16 local NGOs. In this program I devised, set up and executed a grant scheme of EUR 200K alone in cooperation with a dozen of donors represented by the Network of European Foundations (Brussels).
Most recently I had the chance to widen my managerial horizon as the development director of one of the world’s leading symphonic orchestra (Ivan Fischer’s Budapest Festival Orchestra), a position which required to implement the latest trends (audience relationship management, crowdfunding, donor cultivation, digital media usage) in the Central-European context.
Last year I prepared a new profile and setup for a major Hungarian private foundation (endowed by the Polgár family) which seeks to strengthen the self-organizing and advocacy capacities of disadvantaged groups (especially Roma people). Upon the founder’s invitation I became the managing director of this NGO and launched a new program with a dedicated, young staff.
Besides being an active practitioner, I’ve been always attracted to create a bigger impact through policy-making and education. For ten years now, I’ve been lecturing at the Budapest Academy of Film and Theatre, where I’m in charge of management, cultural policy and economics related subjects as well as headmaster of a groundbreaking cursus on applied theatre. Since this fall, I’m the appointed leader of the Department of Art Theory and Mediation.
Education:
I hold a BA from Université Paris VIII - History of Arts, Theatre studies and an MA from ELTE Budapest in French Culture Language. Currently I'm finishing my doctoral studies at the Academy of Film and Theatre (Budapest) writing a thesis on cultural management education.
