Professional Experience:
Immediately after completing my Bachelor's degree I started working for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization as a Research Assistant and Junior Communications Consultant. Here, I developed and coordinated a network dedicated to agriculture and agribusiness for North Africa and Southern Eastern Mediterranean. In addition I helped organise and implement study tours and international conferences, wrote regular articles and press releases, conducted journalistic work, proof-read and copy edited official documents and publications and provided general administrative support to senior staff. I left FAO to work at Bioversity International where I joined a team that was conducting research at the Niassa National Reserve in Mozambique on sustainable forest management and sustainable livelihood options for the inhabitants of the reserve. I was responsible for inputting and analysing the survey data (around 400 participants), conducting related desk research and literature reviews and writing up the findings in 2 peer-reviewed journals (to be published). I have also worked for the International Institute for Environment and Development as a research assistant, conducting research and putting together a database/interactive map on wildlife crime and community based natural resource management provisions in Afria, Asia and Latin America. More recently, I have worked for the Overseas Development Institute producing a report on the Department for International Developent's land programmes around the world.
Education:
I hold a first class honours in Social Anthropology from Brunel University in London with a specific focus on development related modules such as the international of global health, the anthropology of international development, the anthropology of the person etc. Whilst learning specific knowledge and theory within anthropology, the course also taught how to undertake successful social research both through analysing the work of famous researchers such as Malinowski, Boas and Mead as well as through the practical component of conducting our own ethnographies. The course culminated in a 6 month field work study in which I conducted an ethnography on Eastern religion in Western culture (Nichiren Buddhism in London). In addition to learning social research methods, I learned the importance of reflexive thinking and developed cultural sensitivity and a holistic vision for social research, which are imperative for successful development inititaives.

I was inspired to understake post-graduate study at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London in Sustainable Development and Natural Resource Management by the likes of Naomi Klein and Vandana Shiva, who brought to my attention the severity of the environmental crisis and climate change and the urgency these challenges require. The course emphasised environmental conservation and development and social equity and ranged in topics from climate change and development, sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, environmental science, social research methods and 6 month field work project in which I studied the effects of climate change on British agriculture.
Affiliations and Achievements:
In addition to my Bachelors and Masters degrees, I have completed a 120 Hour Teaching English as a Foreign Language course and worked as a private English teacher in Rome. I am also a qualified personal trainer and class instructor and have worked as both as a side job over the years.
