Professor Public Health / Global Health Program Director – School of Health Sciences and Practice
Direct all facets of Global Health Program including graduate/medical student teaching, medical student precepting, academic advising, and thesis advising. Develop and establish academic partnerships between School of Public Health and World Health Organization (WHO) office and UN Department of Public Information (DPI).
Key Achievements:
? Championed social responsibility among medical student population by initiating and spearheading college’s first fundraising program that engaged students from all three schools of medicine.
? Led New York Medical College to become one of founding members of United Nations Academic Impact Initiative (UNAI) via extensive reporting, discussions, and recommendations with Dean and UNAI Director.
? Spearheaded development of and fundraising for Safe Motherhood project in conjunction with Mission of Malawi and former First Lady of Malawi. Project included maternity waiting home and more than 200 obstetrics delivery kits. Partnered with other NGOs to install well providing clean water supply to home.
? Leveraged success of Safe Motherhood project in Malawi to lead current initiative with Ithaca College students to raise funds for obstetrics kits for women in El Salvador.
? Expanded and grew program with nearly 30% increase in students, online global health certificate, and worldwide student population. Implemented international UN and WHO internships, migrated curriculum to online venue, and launched new class with global experts in health contributing to class via Skype.
? Authored first textbook on global women’s issues, Women’s Global Health and Human Rights, currently used worldwide as graduate-level interdisciplinary textbook.
