I am a financial services professional seeking a new challenge in the development sector. I have 10 years experience in Treasury and I am in the senior leadership of the organisation I currently work for and managing a $1bn balance sheet. I have also had work experience as a system administrator and programmer in the technology sector. Great written communication skills.
My career started out in the Technology sector in 2002, where to begin with, I worked for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) on system administration and help desk. I also had the opportunity to participate on a one year professional training programme in Germany to develop skills in e-commerce, e-learning initiatives, as well as management consultancy. My most substantive role in technology was as a Consultant-Programmer in 2004,during a project aimed at developing information systems for the local electricity utility company. I specifically worked on a stores and procurement system as part of a cross-cultural, cross-functional team.I then joined the banking sector as a management trainee. This enabled me to appreciate the various sections of the bank. I however settled in the area of Markets and Treasury. My starting point was as Sales Dealer, charged with the responsibility of managing a portfolio of clients for management of their foreign currency exposures. The role also entailed business development, through continued scoping of the environment to continually seek new opportunities for business and onboard clients.I am currently working in Treasury, managing the bank's liquidity and interest rate risk. This includes the following:Liquidity and Capital:- managing cash flow and ensuring that the bank remains well funded at all times- ensuring that all internal and regulatory requirements pertaining to liquidity and capital are met- capital and liquidity stress testing and management of the funding plan and capital plan to ensure that liquidity risk is adequately managed in the business' strategy, and that capital is sufficient.Asset and Liability Management:- Managing of the interest rate risk arising from mismatches in the balance sheet- Funds transfer pricing- Management of the backside investment strategy. - I also oversee and manage the secretariat for the Asset and Liability Committee (ALCO.I have been Head of Balance Sheet Management since 2014.
I hold a BSc. Computer Science from the Copperbelt University in Zambia, and a MSc. Financial Management from the School of African and Oriental Studies of the University of London. My first degree was broad, covering hardware, software, communications, as well as systems analysis and design. I graduated with Merit.Electives included in my Masters programme included Corporate Finance, Economics as well as a study of the various theories relating to Finance in the Global Market. I also took up a module in Project and Investment Appraisal, and I expect that this part of my training will be particularly relevant in my career in development.I also have a keen interest in literary arts as demonstrated by my recent completion of a course in Proofreading and Copyediting, as well as the journalism course I have since started.
