Professional Experience:
My past five professional positions have been as Climate Change Advisor for USAID/Indonesia; Senior Climate Advisor to the Chief Scientist, US Department of Agriculture; Science Communicator, US Global Change Research Program; Assistant Director of Legislative Affairs, The Wildlife Society, and Director, Nerd Nite DC. While the specific topics I dealt with differed in each of these positions, my duties have always tended to revolve around policy research and analysis, program development and management, interagency/governmental/donor coordination, editing, writing, and science translation/communication.

To highlight those skills and achievements that are most relevant for the next steps in my career, it is perhaps most appropriate to look at my positions at USAID and Nerd Nite. At USAID I was the main POC for all things climate related for the Mission. There I: researched, designed and wrote procurement packages on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, and science and technology coordination and communication; coordinated on policy issues related to climate change, STEM policy, science communication, scientific research, forest conservation, disaster risk reduction, conservation agriculture, biodiversity and rural livelihoods within donors, the academic community, and local and national governments; led technical advising on climate change for the Mission; implemented humanitarian interventions including assessments, strategy development, and reporting; managed several multi-million dollar projects on climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation, including on agriculture, forestry and water issues; acted as primary POC for office communication, including writing speeches, talking points and coordinating outreach for the Ambassador and other officials; held certification as Agreement/Contracting Officers Representative (AOR/COR); was primary Mission POC for disaster response and related issues related to 2015 El Nino and forest fires. I have a well-rounded background on most aspects of climate change and am proficient or can quickly become proficient on most topics in the climate sector.

My position as Director at Nerd Nite DC affords me the chance to work on my other passion, which is better science communication. At Nerd Nite DC (which I created and have managed and hosted for 7 years) I work with scientists, artists, and other technical experts to bring their topics to a public audience in a fun, funny, and highly accessible way. Nerd Nite DC and Jakarta (newly started) are part of an international network of science engagement events and they have been regularly featured in many national and international publications. Management duties for this monthly event include: identifying innovative speakers and themes, working with speakers to improve presentation skills, editing and writing advertising and press releases, writing articles for popular science magazines, booking entertainment, negotiating with venue
