In 2010 I founded Kickstart Growth to help organizations raise money, increase revenues, open new markets, fine-tune growth plans, increase profits, and engage stakeholders, donors and customers. Recent assignments include:
Strategy Advisor for BlueSky Airways, helping refocus the business plan and financial modeling for the first private-sector airline in Botswana.
Consultant for Development Associates International (DAI). Advised DAI on proposal development by finding, interviewing and selecting potential implementing partners for a USAID-funded Youth Entrepreneurship project in Tanzania.
Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Tanzania (AmCham-TZ). Doubled membership to 145 members in 6 months, increased revenues 225%. Overhauled agency branding, designed new logo and membership website. Made the organization relevant, leading a Corporate Social Responsibility campaign to protect Tanzania’s elephant population, and designing and conducting two all-day training seminars for over 2,000 Tanzania job-seekers and budding entrepreneurs.
Consultant to United Nations International Trade Center (UNITC), working with Tanzanian SMEs in the Agriculture sector, to help refine business plans and raise investment capital.
Consultant to the World Bank to help build operational capacity at the Dar Teknohama Business Incubator (DTBi), a public / private partnership with the Tanzanian Commission for Science and Technology, and also served as Entrepreneur-in-Residence, advising Tanzanian ICT entrepreneurs in the incubation program on strategies to profitably grow their businesses.
Consultant to Kickstart International. Redesigned operations of award-winning NGO working with small-holder farmers to manage within budget and achieve donor-funded targets by reducing operating costs and increasing efficiency. Restructured, retrenched and retrained staff. Simplified overly complex strategies to focus organizational efforts on achieving results.
From 2008-2010 I was part of a senior management team at a 120-person, 100-year-old non-profit community federation. I led a successful effort to develop new policies and services for the $1.8 billion Endowment Fund, resulting in 50% in new revenue over the prior year, increased community donations from direct mail by 400% in spite of the worst economy in 70 years, and built an engaging, interactive website and community portal.
From 2005-2008 I served as the founding CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area, having merged three small San Francisco Bay Area agencies into a sustainable regional powerhouse. I streamlined the recruitment process, instituted training and standards for outcome measurements, implemented an online database management system, and grew revenues to $2.5MM annually while reducing operating costs and increasing the number of children served from 300 in 2005 to over 1300 in 2008.
