Professional Experience: |
I am a communications and advocacy practitioner with experience that spans about 10 years in the governance sector in Kenya. I currently work with the Commission on Administrative Justice, Kenya's Office of the Ombudsman, as Director responsible for Advocacy and Communications. The Commission is mandated to address maladministration in the public sector and enforce implementation of the Access to Information Act, 2016. I am responsible for, inter alia, leading public awareness and education efforts to facilitate realisation of the right of access to information. Previously, I worked with reform and transitional justice institutions including the Committee of Experts on Constitutional Review that delivered the Constitution of Kenya (2010) and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission. Additionally, I have worked as a journalist for a leading TV station in Kenya and commentated on governance issues (as a columnist for the Nairobi Law Monthly).
Key Highlights
• Extensive experience in the governance sector in Kenya, providing a vantage point to understand government operations, and opportunities to engage with Development Partners and Non-State Actors as well as Media.
• Built and nurtured relationships with key stakeholders including Media and Non-State Actors and, consequently, created avenues for disseminating information, setting agenda, and advocacy.
• Created content to advance organisational objectives by setting agenda in conventional and digital space (through opinion editorials, guest placement on talk shows, news features, tweet chats), and speeches of influential persons among others.
• Coordination of high profile events including the Regional Colloquium of African Ombudsman Institutions and Huduma (Service) Ombudsman Award – an award scheme with an inter-agency advisory panel.
• Provided advisories to spokespersons on media engagement.
• Worked across programmes and identified priority areas, documented success and amplified voices and impact through various channels.
• Supported fund-raising efforts – developed proposals/concept notes, and pitched for resources.
• Developed public education materials such as brochures, simplified versions of technical documents, and briefs for various stakeholders.

I hold a Bachelor of Education (Arts) Degree. Second Class Honours, Upper Division. (University of Nairobi,2006)
Currently pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in Communication Studies (Development Communication Concentration) at Daystar University, Nairobi and will be completing the same in 2019.
