Professional Experience:
Rob Gray has worked in international public health and development since 2002 based in countries including China, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, and Vietnam. He has held both technical and executive-level managerial positions in the NGO sector. He is experienced in project design, budgeting and financial management, government and donor relations, advocacy, fundraising as well as management & leadership of large and diverse teams. He served as Country Manager of PSI Uzbekistan and Deputy Regional Representative for PSI in Central Asia (2003-2007), Country Representative of PSI Thailand (2007-2010) and Country Rep of PSI Laos (2007-2014). He was the Chief of Party for USAID’s flagship regional HIV prevention project in China, Laos, Thailand & Myanmar from 2007-2010. Since 2014, he has served as Senior Technical Advisor for HIV/AIDS at PSI Myanmar. He is an internationally-recognized expert on key populations, including sex workers, people who inject drugs, men who have sex with men and transgenders and is PSI’s Global Technical Expert on HIV & Injecting Drug Use.
Mr Gray has managed projects across a wide range of health areas, including HIV/AIDS, TB, maternal & child health, family planning, post-abortion care, nutrition, malaria, and water and sanitation. He has over a decade of experience in social marketing and social franchising, mobilizing the private sector to provide scaled-up, sustainable, bottom-of-the pyramid public health solutions for poor and vulnerable people in the developing world. He has extensive experience in the distribution of health-oriented fast-moving consumer goods in developing country contexts, including condoms, lubricant, STI treatment, oral and injectable contraceptives, misoprostol, naloxone, sterile injecting equipment, micronutrient powder, and more. During his career, Mr Gray has played a lead role in securing more than $100 million in funding from donors including Global Fund, USAID/PEPFAR, World Bank, UN agencies and more. He holds a Master’s degree from Harvard University and speaks Chinese.
