Professional Experience: |
Independent expert on Nepal with extensive knowledge of human rights, gender, caste, society and culture. My professional connection to Nepal dates back to 1995 when I began my first extensive field research. Throughout the years, I have lived, worked and researched in Nepal for almost a decade, including two years of field research spent in a village in Gorkha district (1995-7), and two years researching internal migration in Kathmandu (2004-6). I served as an Associate Durable Solutions Officer in UNHCR working in particular with urban refugees in Kathmandu (2008-9). I worked as a consultant to a rural development INGO (Namlo International, 2010) focusing on women empowerment, community capacity building and education, and was the manager of the Carter Center's east Nepal office (2010).
