Professional Experience: |
Joined the WHO in 1988, as medical officer for Emergency Preparedness and Response in the Regional Office for Africa. Then moved in 1990 to the Global Programme on AIDS (GPA) working as team leader and technical adviser in Lesotho, Bangladesh and Indonesia.
In 1998, moved to WHO Geneva to take on the responsibility for WHO's work in HIV/AIDS surveillance. Chaired the UNAIDS/WHO Working Group on Global HIV/AIDS/STI Surveillance. In 2001, I was appointed Coordinator of the Risk Containment, Mapping and Drug Resistance (RMD) Team. In June 2004 I became the Director of the WHO Lyon Office for National Epidemic Preparedness and Response. Between November 2006 and December 2009, worked at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria as Senior Health Adviser. Retired from WHO in 2013.
Guest speaker in many international conferences and meetings, I am the author of many publications on HIV/AIDS, disease surveillance, influenza pandemics and antimicrobial resistance.
