Professional Experience:
As a highly motivated and detail oriented individual, I hold various outstanding and desirable skills. First, my strong interpersonal and communication skills have been honed by the need to effectively communicate in a culturally diverse workplace. The cultural diversity is both a product of my post-graduate studies at the London School of Economics and the heterogeneous sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) landscape in which I have had the chance to work over the last eight years.

Second, as a Communications Co-ordinator at Financial Sector Deepening Africa (FSD Africa), a DFID funded regional financial sector development programme operating across SSA, I have had the chance to design and deliver a comprehensive and practical communications platform. This included the development of: a communications review and strategy, brand and visibility guidelines, key partnership liaison strategies and audience maps, targeted contact databases, key stakeholder messages, digital and non-digital channels, programme and project communications work plans as well as communications policies and procedures.

In this role, I supported the design and delivery of communications platforms for the FSD Network members (South Africa, Kenya, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia). I fostered a vibrant FSD Network communications working group and formalised its ongoing modus operandi, to share knowledge, strengthen the FSD communications community and provide a platform for communications training and mentoring. So far, the working group workshops and communication clinics have been conducted in Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Ethiopia, Mozambique and in South Africa.

Part of my responsibilities was to lead in developing and managing innovative tools and channels to capture and share FSD Africa’s and the FSD Network’s ideas and impact. I worked closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation Co-ordinator in strengthening existing methods and in creating new ways to measure and communicate the impact of financial sector development, through case studies, research projects, innovative event hosting, visual presentation and storytelling, video diaries, animations, podcasts and blogs.

Third, I have had the chance to design, implement and evaluate Communication Strategies. Such as the COMESA Business Council’s Communication Strategy for the Local Sourcing Project (LSP) funded by the Investment Climate Facility for Africa (ICF) and USAID in 6 countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Malawi and Zambia) within the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). Working at COMESA contributed to my research paper on ‘Why Regional Integration Succeeds or Fail in Africa’ (Published by the International Journal of African Development).

Fourth, I have also been part of a team that formulated the regional Ebola communications and prevention road map in Dakar, Senegal, for the entire African continent to prevent the spread of Ebola.
