Professional Experience: |
I developed, deployed, maintain and support: 1) an electronic medical record (EMR) system; 2) an animal disease surveillance system, and 3) data repositories for animal health and medicinal plants research. I helped analyze cancer genomic data for translational applications, structured complex immunological and genetic data (that exists in the public domain but locked in non-computable format) to support biomedical discovery, and managed the biological research portfolio and grants program data of an international neuroscience organization. Currently I am developing an app to manage the quality evaluation of nuclear medicine programs worldwide. HIGHLIGHTS • Initiated data governance at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of the Philippines Los Banos. The framework we developed will be applied to the research data generating activities of the college and extended to their animal health collaborators. • Developed and deployed an electronic medical record app (UnEMR), data repositories for medicinal plants research (10HG, PhilMetab) and animal health (CPES), and an animal disease surveillance system (ADSS). • Helped analyze a large cancer dataset – discovered cancer characteristics that can be targeted and exploited for immunological diagnostic testing and therapeutic interventions. • Directed translational science navigation in a leading medical university focused on minority health and health disparities research; managed the deployment of database-backed applications in researcher networking and clinical research data capture, and the development of a translational research web portal. The web portal, along with science navigation, facilitates translational science, intra- and inter-organizational collaborations, and program evaluation. • Curated genetic findings to support the interpretation of genomic data. • Curated context-dependent immunological data. The Immune Epitope Database (IEDB) is applied to vaccine design, diagnostics and immunotherapeutics, and now a high priority in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases' (NIAID) plan for the 21st century. • Managed the biological research portfolio of an international not-for-profit organization that funds research across a broad scientific discipline (Autism Spectrum Disorders/Neuroscience). • Conducted basic biological research focused on neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, nerve regeneration, and neural development utilizing in vitro, in vivo, ex vivo and in ovo experimental techniques. In charge of the laboratory’s biological, chemical and radiation safety. • Developed animal models of disease; performed biochemical, molecular biological, cell-based, histological and behavioral experiments; reviewed grants for funding agencies and manuscripts for scientific journals; trained students in scientific methodologies; lectured locally and internationally.
