Professional Experience:
Worked for the Government of Cameroon, Yaoundé, Ndop, and Bamenda, Cameroon from September 2000 – Present as an Expert in Individual and Collective Counseling
My duties cover, Providing mediations, counseling, and advice to individuals, civil society organizations, and government entities, to help resolve public and private conflicts such as land-rights conflict and financial conflict. Facilitate and negotiate resolution of conflicts by addressing parties, collecting information through interviews and meetings, and providing advice to parties on direction and making informed decisions. Assisted over 3,000 clients and provided substantive advice to over 2,000. About half have reported back that the advice provided substantial relief to the situation. With the Justice and Peace Commission, Bamenda, Cameroon November 2014 – June 2016, (Gender and Peace Building Officer), I Manage staff of 12 including a peace and development officer, capacity building officer, and administrative personnel. Oversee project budgets valued between US$50-100 thousand. I drafted project proposals ranging from US$30-50 thousand to support gender sensitivity education among local community members and with traditional community authorities. And this involved; Development of training and public education materials, workshops, and public campaigns focused on gender sensitivity. Performed 24 trainings for over 900 people including community members, civil and traditional authorities, the judiciary, and police, Supported a pilot project on gender-based violence in two regions of Cameroon to address intimate partner violence, widowhood rites, rape, sexual harassment, breast ironing, female genital mutilation, incest, and forced and early marriage, The program benefitted all levels of the communities; in the process of implementation over 50 victims of gender-based violence were identified. Promoted Cameroon’s National Gender Policy (2011-2020) through development of graphically attractive, reader-friendly materials that were distributed to civic groups, churches, offices, and civic organizations, Advocated gender policy through radio interviews, focus group discussions, role plays, and round table discussions with beneficiaries, politicians, civil society, international agencies, and the population at large, Developed “Women’s Peace Committees” to involve women in the peace building process at the community level under the context of the UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325, Lobbied and advocated for women’s rights, legal reforms, and implementation of protection laws with members of parliament, civil society, the judiciary, and local political leadership.
