Online Engagement and Communications Intern
- Upon successful review, the internship’s initial duration of three months has been extended for another three months.
- An integral member of a small and dynamic team and a direct contributor to a large-scale global research project. Have gained first-hand insight into the depth of UNHCR’s work in urban areas, a fast-growing, exciting, and innovative area of humanitarian assistance.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintained and updated the urbangoodpractices.org website database with examples of good practice exchange workshops
- Independently researched other sources of good practices for urban programming
- Promoted content on urbangoodpractices.org through creative posts and campaigns on the website’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
- Authored a variety of communication materials, including monthly communication updates, case studies, human interest stories, etc.
- Developed an appealing layout for the urbangoodpractices.org mailing list using HTML/CSS.
- Assisted in data analysis and visualization, and the refinement of process mapping.
- Tracked and developed working relationships with universities worldwide that have refugee-centered programs.
- Provided general and ad hoc support to the team as required.
- Conducted extensive regional literature reviews that will be published in UNHCR’s global report on urban refugees.

The inaugural project of the James R. Jordan Foundation; developing a state of the art healthcare facility whose programming shares a common intent to serve the health and wellness of the community.
- Researched, wrote, and collaborated on funding proposals.
Attended and presented lectures at Gender Based Violence (GBV) workshops in Kasarani and surrounding regions to facilitate a public awareness campaign and national policies to help reduce GBV cases in the community.
- Worked at the GBV information centre in Mathare North Hospital to provide survivors with referrals to receive psycho-social support. Also collaborated with likeminded partners and paralegals to expedite prosecution of sexual and gender based violence offenders and help victims access justice without fear of victimization.
