Professional Experience:
• 12+ years in private and public sector media, including 10+ years in international news journalism, six years in agricultural extension media production, and several years working in strategic communication and social and behavioral change communication. I co-founded two community newspapers and a solar-powered community radio station on various Pacific islands;
• Excellent writing, editing, presentation and media-production skills (print, visual, electronic, digital, social) and the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to produce a broad range of audience-differentiated media products;
• 10+ years in mid-level public administration including human-resource management within a coaching orientation; budgetary oversight and planning; coordination of decentralized teams; holistic inward- and outward-facing organizational communication; project management and evaluation; community outreach and stakeholder engagement;
• Teaching experience (US and Commonwealth) in informal (community) and formal (classroom) situations conducted in-person and online;
• An adeptness at creating multi-partner relationships among private, public and social sector counterparts that facilitate dialogue and inclusive decision-making;
• Research expertise (field and desk-based, blended methods, participatory) and experience working within culturally appropriate research methods in grassroots communities.
Education:
• PhD in Communication, The University of Queensland (Australia) in affiliation with the Center for Communication and Social Change. My research in several Pacific Island countries investigated how islanders use communication media to inject their voices into decision-making at various levels and how these activities revealed the tensions between Western and Pacific-indigenous development models;
• MS, Journalism, The University of Illinois (US);
• BA, California State University Sacramento, Government and Journalism;
• Continuing education in the areas of climate change, project management, monitoring and evaluation, mixed-methods research, citizen engagement, international agricultural extension, ICTs for development.
