Affiliations and Achievements:
I have lived, studied and worked on three continents for a minimum of six years each (Africa, Europe and North America), and so I have had exposure to a variety of academic, cultural and social environments and working conditions.
I earned three scholarships from the Government of Spain, which allowed me to study in Spain for a total of six years.
I earned the Opportunity Fellowship while I was a Ph. D. student at Purdue University.
I did a five month internship in Washington D.C. with the National Park Service of the U.S.A. This allowed me to work on Heritage Tourism themes in various locations in the U.S.
I was the Manager of Tour Development Projects at the E - Z Tours Company in New York City, and this provided me with an industry perpective in the private sector. My duties at the
E - Z Tours Company involved travelling to West Africa and negotiating favorable terms for the tours that our company sent to those destinations. The service providers that I negotiated with included hotels, transportation services and attractions.
When I was the Human Dimensions Researcher for the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, I designed research instruments like surveys and focus groups, and then trained the staff at the various state parks to gather data on the preferences and level of satisfaction with services at the state parks. I then gathered the data, did the statistical analysis, and came up with management and policy recommendations for the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation.
I have published a number of refereed professional papers on tourism and hospitality, and I have made presentations on my research at international conferences, including at such places as Vienna, Austria, Wellington, New Zealand, and Washington, D.C.
